MTG-e Battery Electric
Electric powertrain and charging integration for mobile work machinery
Geolectric Oy develops electric geotechnical drilling machinery for demanding field conditions. Reliable operation requires a fully integrated electric powertrain designed around real duty cycles and charging reality.
In this reference case, Hevtec delivered an e-Kit electric powertrain solution for Geolectric, integrating powertrain, battery, charging, and control systems to enable predictable real-world operation.

Starting point – How to electrify a geotechnical drilling rig
Operating electric drilling machinery in the field places strict requirements on the entire powertrain. Energy demand is high, duty cycles are variable, and charging must be fast and reliable without disrupting daily work.
The challenge was to ensure that the complete powertrain — traction, energy storage, charging, and controls — works together as a coherent system under real operating conditions. This challenge is common across electric mobile work machinery operating outside controlled depot environments.
Hevtec Control System features used in this electrification project:
- Multiple energy source management
- Data logging and edge computing
- Battery system and power electronics thermal management
- Auxiliary system control
- Charge control
- Intelligent power and energy management
Solution – Modular e-Kit electric powertrain architecture
Hevtec provided application-specific electric powertrain kit for Geoelectric. Hevtec delivered an e-Kit electric powertrain solution designed as a scalable system architecture.
The e-Kit consists of an integrated electric powertrain system, including:
electric powertrain architecture
battery system integration
DC fast charging integration
power and control system software
The powertrain consists of a 198 kWh Li-ion battery, a 130 kW inverter and motor driving the hydraulic system, a DC/DC converter for the 24V system, 22 kW on-board charging and CCS2 DC-fast charging enabled by Hevtec Puro CCS charging interface.
The electric powertrain is controlled by control system Hevtec Software VCU.
By combining a scalable system design with application-specific configuration, the e-Kit solution supports both reliable current operation and future scalability without redesigning the core powertrain architecture.
Result – Predictable and scalable operation in real-world conditions
The integrated e-Kit electric powertrain solution delivered clear operational benefits in demanding field use:
powertrain performance matches real drilling duty cycles
fast charging supports continuous daily operation
energy use and system behavior are predictable
electrification does not introduce operational bottlenecks
Beyond immediate performance, the system architecture supports scalability:
the same powertrain concept can be reused across machine variants
core system architecture remains unchanged from prototype to series
scaling does not require re-engineering the complete system
As a result, electrification supports both current operation and future deployment without compromising reliability or integration effort.
